In a previous blog post we’ve listed a few types of labels that your Zebra Printer accepts in order to print out the Labels generated by SlabWare to identify your slabs and check your inventory.
And now, SlabWare’s latest update enables you to customize the layout of your QR code Labels inside SlabWare, to fit perfectly into the paper standards you use at your shop.
You can now redefine the position of the QR Code, insert your company’s logo, and choose which information will be displayed on the Label and where this information will be displayed.
In this blog post, we’re gonna go through the tool with you and show you how simple it is to set up the system to create Labels for the papers you use!
1. First of all, what are the Labels used for?
They contain information about the slab you are referring to in your warehouse. Besides that, they can be used to make inventory checks to verify if your physical warehouse matches your inventory in the system.
For a full tutorial on how to make inventory checks using the Labels, check out this blog post.
2. Where do I find the new label system?
Find Settings on the left-side menu, then click again Settings, and then Printer Label (NEW)

3. Previewing your Labels on the printing sheet
On the next screen, you’ll have a preview of how the labels will be shown in your printing paper. Check out the image below and let’s get to the details of each field:
On the first box Label, you can select which label you are visualizing. That is right, you can have multiple labels registered depending on the need you have for them.
When you click Add New (we will get to it below in this post), a new label will appear to be edited, and on this dropdown, you can select which one will be previewed now.
- Qty. Columns: Number of columns that will be printed on your sheet. Pay attention to the case of your labels being oversized (mainly when using multiple columns) and overpassing the sheet’s surface.
- Row Gap: Space between the rows.
- Column Gap: Space between the columns.
- Horizontal Margin: Space between the upper and lower margins.
- Vertical Margin: Space between the left and right margins.
The best you can do is test the system out by putting different values in each field and hitting Save, then seeing how the changes will affect the sheet on the Preview box.
4. Adding a new Label
In the page shown below, click Add New. A new screen will appear.
Choose a name for your Label and the printer you use. If you use Zebra, select that, if you use another type of printer, select Other. Hit Create.
This is the screen you’ll have:
You can define the Width of your label and select whether you want to see it in Inches or pixels. Hit the + button and a new pop-up window will be shown:
– Type refers to the type of data that will be shown in your QR Label: Company shows the Company data, Bundle shows the bundle data, and Text shows a personalized written text of your choice.
– Cell: shows cell formatting, its color, width, and other data
– Content: shows content (inside the cell) formatting options.
When you select the Type Text, this is what it looks like:
If you select the Type Bundle, some more information appears:
The items in the left side column are the options you can choose to be shown in your QR Labels. Choose the options you want to show and shift them to the right-side column. If the drop-down Field is selected as Info, the Info will appear written – while if that field is QR Code, the QR Code will be shown.
We’ve done both below so you can see how it appears on the label. The first is the QR Code and the second is the Info. On this page, you can also shift the positions of the “columns” inside the label.
And on the preview:
Now, when the Type is Company, the same happens:
If the Field is Logo, then your company Logo will be inserted, if it is Info, the system will work out exactly as the previous item.
Let’s insert a logo and check out how it will appear on our label:
5. And where do I print those Labels?
On the Label Settings screen, click the button Test Print.
Then, on the next screen that opens, press Ctrl+P. A new pop-up window will appear:
Select the printer and click Print.
